Bemidji State takes third overall at 2019 Disney Cross Country Classic 5K

The Bemidji State University cross country team was all smiles in the land of Walt Disney as it finished third overall at the 2019 Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Fla. Four Beavers set personal record times in the 5,000-meter race, including sophomore Ryne Prigge with an eighth place time of 18:59.1, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Saturday morning.

Prigge’s personal record time in the 5K placed her at the top of the BSU roster, finishing just over 44 seconds behind first place. Senior Kristen Petron clocked in just under one minute behind Prigge with a personal record time of 19:43.5 to finish 21st. Lily Johnson was the top freshmen finisher for BSU with a time of 20:27.2 in 31st place. It was the first 5K race as a Beaver for the team’s three participating freshmen.

Sophomore Allyna Storms and junior Ashley Herdering also set personal record marks during the race with times of 20:51.4 and 21:42.7, respectively. As a team, BSU averaged a time of 20:09.3, almost on minute faster than its average time from the 5K Dragon Twilight a year ago.

Bemidji State returns to the course Saturday, Oct. 26 with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships held in Wayne, Neb.
