Traveling Beavers to face Lake Superior State in holiday weekend series

Bemidji State University junior forward Alex Adams, senior defender Tommy Muck and freshman blueliner Elias Rosén have been selected for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekly honors for their roles in Beavers’ WCHA series sweep over University of Alabama Huntsville, Nov. 22-23.

Adams led the Beavers, was tied for first among all WCHA players and tied for third nationally in scoring with four points on two goals and two assists. The sophomore forward recorded the first multi-point game of his career Friday, netting a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a 5-3 victory over the Chargers. He added an assist Saturday as the Beavers completed the sweep with a 7-0 victory to remain unbeaten at home (4-0-2). Following a four-point weekend, the Grand Rapids, Minn. native has seven points (4g-3a). This is Adams’ first career WCHA weekly award.

Muck recorded the first goal of his 125-game collegiate career and added an assist Friday for his first multi-point game since Feb. 3, 2017. The senior co-captain added an assist in Saturday’s 7-0 victory. In all he had a hand in three power-play goals (1g-2a) as the Beavers went 4-for-8 on the man advantage in the series. He tied for second among all WCHA defenders in scoring on the weekend. He previously earned rookie of the week honors as a freshman in 2016-17.

After contributing an assist on the power play in a 5-3 win to open the series Friday, Rosén recorded the first multi-point of his collegiate career in a 7-0 victory Saturday. He scored the game-winning goal to open the series finale and collected a pair of assists on the power play. He finished the weekend having a hand in three BSU power-play goals. His four points ranked first among WCHA defenders in scoring and ranked second among all NCAA Division I defenders on the weekend. He now leads all BSU newcomers with eight points (2g-6a) and has logged at least one point in four of BSU’s last five games. This is Rosén’s first career WCHA weekly award.

In addition to the BSU trio, Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Dryden McKay was named goaltender of the week.

BSU, which is 6-4-2 on the season and 6-2-0-0 versus WCHA competition after the sweep, will be back on the road Nov. 29-30. The Beavers will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. for a two-game league series with Lake Superior State University. The series will get underway at 6:07 p.m. (CT) Friday with the puck set to drop for the series finale at 4:07 p.m. (CT) Saturday.
