BSU Softball continues February play at Husky Invite

The Bemidji State University softball team continues the early portion of its 2020 season this weekend by traveling to St. Cloud to participate in the Husky Invite, Feb. 14-15. The Beavers (1-2, 0-0 NSIC) will play four games at the two-day invite beginning with Northwestern College and University of Minnesota Crookston Friday followed by William Jewell College and Viterbo University Saturday.

Bemidji State returns to action after opening the season at the Minot State Invite last weekend where it went 1-2 with a win against Black Hills State University and losses against Minot State University and Minnesota Crookston.

The Beavers were led by sophomore Elaina Christiansen who batted .444 in nine at bats and totaled four hits with one home run and one RBI. Freshman Emmarie Yeagers followed by batting .429 in seven at bats and tied for the team lead with three RBI with junior Sami Dullum.

Freshman Kyla Damerow earned the lone win for the Beavers in the circle and pitched eight innings in three appearances posting a 4.38 earned run average. Junior Stephi Dullum followed with an 0-1 record in two starts and five innings of work while senior Olivia Tucker also posted an 0-1 record in three appearances and six innings of work.

The Beavers begin the weekend by facing Northwestern College Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Red Raiders are 2-0 to start the 2020 season and are led by Bri Giordano who is batting .667 at the plate while Samantha Ubben leads the pitching staff with a 1-0 record and 2.25 ERA.

BSU concludes the first day by facing Minnesota Crookston at 5:00 p.m., for the second time this season who beat the Beavers 9-0 in six innings last weekend in Minot, N.D. Malia Pula leads the Golden Eagles by batting .667 at the plate while Paige Pitlick has posted a 1-1 record in the circle with a 2.17 ERA.

The Beavers begin day two by facing William Jewell and Viterbo Saturday at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., respectively. Both William Jewell and Viterbo will open their 2020 seasons at the Husky Invite.
