Bemidji State University women’s basketball returns from a week off to host Minnesota State University Moorhead for a doubleheader Friday, Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m. The Beavers and Dragons continue their 53-year history with the 111th and 112th installments of the series at BSU Gymnasium.

MSU Moorhead leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 71-39. The Dragons swept the Beavers during the 2019-20 season series, opening with an 86-57 win on Dec. 7, 2019 in Moorhead, Minn., and closing with a 63-56 win on Jan. 10, 2020 in Bemidji.

Sophomore center Rachael Heittola averaged 10.5 points per game against the Dragons last year while coming off the bench. Junior forward Claire Wolhowe scored 10.0 points per game with three 3-pointers in each game while guards Trinity Myer and Sydney Zerr each scored 9.0 points per game.

MSU Moorhead has won 17 straight games in the series dating back to 2011-12.

The series began in 1968, a 32-30 win by MSU Moorhead.

BSU returns to play after a weekend off and a 1-1 split to open the season Jan. 2-3 at home versus Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Beavers narrowly fell in their season-opener, 63-62, before returning with an 82-76 win in overtime.

Bemidji State snapped an 11-game losing streak to Minnesota State with Sunday’s win.

The Beavers shot 45.9 percent from the field, 15.4 percent from 3-point range, and 75.8 percent from the free throw line over the weekend series versus the Mavericks. In BSU’s win, the Beavers outshot the Mavericks and won the rebound margin, 53-38, which is the most rebounds for BSU in a game since Dec. 3, 2016.
