Bemidji State takes three-game winning streak on the road to UMary

Bemidji State University women’s basketball takes a three-game winning streak on the road with a weekend series at the University of Mary on Jan. 22-23 in Bismarck, N.D. The Beavers will make their first appearance on the road while taking on the Marauders who are 1-3 overall and 1-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

UMary leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 23-5. The Marauders have won three straight in the series with the Beavers’ most recent win coming Jan. 26, 2019 in Bemidji. Junior guard Trinity Myer has scored at least 13 points in every game she has played against the Marauders, including a 20-point performance on Jan. 26, 2019.

The series began Nov. 30, 1984, a 80-75 win by Bemidji State in Bismarck, N.D.

BSU secured a weekend sweep over Minnesota State University Moorhead with wins of 81-60 on Jan. 15 and 74-59 on Jan. 16 in Bemidji, Minn. The Beavers snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Dragons while also securing its first season sweep in the series since the 2003-04 season.

The Beavers shot 53.8 percent from the floor (56-104), 37.5 percent from 3-point range (12-32), and 72.1 percent from the free throw line (31-43) while the Dragons shot under 31 percent in both games.

Bemidji State has now snapped two losing streaks of double digits, an 11-game losing streak to Minnesota State University Mankato from Feb. 18, 2012-Jan. 2, 2021 and a 17-game losing streak to MSU Moorhead from Feb. 11, 2012-Jan. 10, 2020.

The Beavers have shot over 50% from the field in three straight games during its winning streak. BSU shot over 50% just three times combined between 2017-20 and have not shot above 50% in consecutive games since Nov. 21, 2015-Nov. 24, 2015.

BSU ranks third in the nation and leads the NSIC shooting 50.0 percent from the field this season.

Sophomore center Rachael Heittola earned her second career NSIC North Division Player of the Week honor following BSU’s sweep over MSUM. Heittola averaged 20.0 points per game on 71.4 percent shooting from the field and 100.0 percent from beyond the arc. She set a season-high with 26 points on 10-of-11 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in BSU’s 81-60 win to begin the weekend. Heittola added 14 points with one rebound and one block on Saturday.
