Beavers beat #7 Minnesota for first time on home ice

After defeating three top ten teams in the country already this season, the Bemidji State women’s hockey team knew they were capable of doing it again.

Today at the Bemidji Regional Event Center, the Beavers not only scored first, but also shutout the Gophers in a 2-0 win. Senior forward Erin Cody put the Beavers on the scoreboard just six minutes into the first period. That score would hold up thanks to the outstanding job in the Beaver net by Olympian Zuzana Tomcikova.

However, with a minute left in the final period of the game, the Gophers were determined to get on the board. They pulled their goalie Noora Raty. The Beavers were able to get the puck back inside their offensive zone and Cody would strike again, this time into an empty net.

The Beavers out shot the Gophers 32-29 and both teams went 0 for 3 on the power play.

Tomcikova improved her record to 6-5-1 on the season. Cody’s two goals put her at 11 for the season and just 8 points away from reaching a milestone 100 career points. Cody’s line mate Sadie Lundquist had assists on both goals while Allie Duellman and Emily Erickson each contributed to a goal.

The win also gives BSU a 6-2-1 record at the BREC.
