Beaver Women’s Hockey Gameday – Game 2– October 2, 2021 – at University of St. Thomas

Led by fifth-year seniors, Paige Beebe and Kerigan Dowhy, the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team opened its 2021-22 campaign with a 3-0 victory at new Western Collegiate Hockey Association member, University of St. Thomas. With the win, the Beavers garnered three points in the WCHA standings and improve to 1-0-0 (1-0-0- WCHA) on the season while the Tommies fall to 0-3-0 (0-3-0 WCHA).

Beebe led the Beavers with her second career multi-goal game after scoring the game’s first two goals. She opened the scoring by netting the season’s first goal just 3:53 into the opening period. Before the period’s end, Beebe would net her second of the game just before the horn sounded with 0:01.1 remaining. Senior Graysen Myers recorded the lone assist on Beebe’s first goal while freshman Adriana Van De Leest tallied the lone assist on her second goal for her first collegiate point in her first collegiate game.

Bemidji State increased its lead to 3-0 late in the second period when junior Reece Hunt netted her first goal of the season and first goal since Mar. 1, 2020 after going last season goal-less. Junior Kate Boland tallied the lone assist on Hunt’s goal to also record her first collegiate point.

Dowhy and the Beavers’ defense closed the door on the Tommies during the full 60 minutes and earned her fourth career shutout after stopping 10 shots in the first period, 14 in the second and seven in the final period for a total of 31 saves in her first action of the season. Dowhy improves to 1-0-0 on the season and has 14 career wins for the green and white for seventh all-time.

Bemidji State out-shot St. Thomas 33-31 in the game and earned three power plays but came up empty on all three attempts. The Beavers’ penalty kill also held the Tommies scoreless on all three of their power-play chances.

St. Thomas’ Alexa Dobchuk earned the loss in net for UST and falls to 0-3-0 after stopping 30-of-33 shots.
