Last night the Bemidji State women’s hockey team helped open the University of Wisconsin’s brand new LaBahn Arena. The Beavers have had plenty of experience playing in historical games against the Badgers.
The Beavers and Badgers skated through two scoreless periods of hockey in front of a sold out crowd of 2273.
Barely five minutes into the third period BSU would take advantage of a misplayed puck behind the net of the Badger goaltender Alex Rigsby. Sophomore Kristin Huber’s goal would be her first of the season with the assist coming from freshman Megan Lushanko, her second of the year.
Despite being outshot 27-23 by the #6/#9 ranked Badgers, sophomore goaltender Abby Ryplanski kept her cool between the pipes and garnered her first win wearing Beaver green, a 1-0 shutout on the road.
With a day off today in lieu of the Wisconsin and Minnesota football game being played just down the road from the LaBahn Arena, the Beavers used saturday for a light practice and will battle the Badgers on Sunday at 2:07pm.
