Beaver Women’s Hockey Gameday – Game 14 – November 27, 2021 – at Lindenwood

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team scored a season-high four goals to end its six-game winless streak Friday night in its series opening game at Lindenwood University. The Beavers (3-8-2, 1-8-1 WCHA) downed the Lions (1-12-0, 1-3-0 CHA) 4-1 in the game with four different Beavers scoring.

Fifth-year senior Lindsey Featherstone opened the scoring just 2:30 into the game with her first goal of the season while freshman Alyssa Watkins earned her first collegiate point on the play. The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 just 5:59 later when fifth-year senior Paige Beebe scored a short-handed goal, the Beavers first short-handed goal of the season. Lindenwood responded before the period’s end when Chloe Corbin scored with just 5:24 left in the opening frame but BSU would head into the first intermission with the 2-1 lead.

Bemidji State continued its aggressive play in the second period and 7:56 into the middle frame, freshman Claire Vekich scored her second goal of the season to extend the Beavers’ lead to two goals. Senior Graysen Myers then made it 4-1 with a power-play goal at 14:50 of the period to earn her fourth goal of the season.

Myers’ tally would be the final score of the game as BSU earned the 4-1 victory.

Sophomore Hannah Hogenson posted another good game in net and turned aside 29-of-30 shots by the Lions to earn her second victory and improve to 2-5-2.

Bemidji State out-shot Lindenwood 40-30 in the game while Lions goaltender Julia Maquire earned the loss after allowing four goals on 30 shots in 36 minutes of work before being replaced by Emily Finach who turned aside all 10 shots she faced in 24 minutes.

The Beavers earned four power plays during the game and went 1-for-4 with the extra skater while their penalty kill turned aside all five chances by the Lions and scored a short-handed goal.

Myers finished the game with a goal and assist while freshman Ella Anick posted two assists for her first collegiate points while Beebe (1g), junior Reece Hunt (1a), Featherstone (1g), Vekich (1g) Watkins (1a) each recorded a point.
