Men’s Hockey resumes conference play with home series against Lake Superior State

The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team returns to Central Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend by hosting Lake Superior State University for a two-game series at Sanford Center. The Beavers (10-10-0, 8-4-0 CCHA) hope to end a four-game losing streak and will host the Lakers (11-10-1, 7-7-0 CCHA) Friday, Jan. 7 at 7:07 p.m., followed by game two Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

Bemidji State resumes CCHA action looking to end a four-game losing streak. The Beavers are second in league standings with 24 points (8-4-0) and trail first-place Minnesota State University, Mankato by 11 points. BSU holds a one-point advantage over third-place Michigan Technological University and a four-point advantage over fourth-place Lake Superior State.

The Beavers played a home-and-home series against non-conference opponent St. Cloud State University in their last action Dec. 31-Jan.1. The Beavers were swept by the seventh-ranked Huskies and were out-scored 9-3 in the series.

Alex Ierullo, Brad Johnson and Owen Sillinger each scored goals for the Beavers in the series while Mattias Sholl led BSU goaltenders with 36 saves in game one.

Bemidji State faces Lake Superior State for the second time this season after meeting earlier Nov. 12-13 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

The Beavers swept the Lakers in their previous series outscoring them 9-6 in the series. Bemidji State earned a 5-4 victory in game one and then completed the sweep with a 4-2 victory the next night.
