Beaver Women’s Hockey Gameday – Game 22 – January 15, 2022 – at Minnesota Duluth

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team fell to No. 7/9 University of Minnesota Duluth, 8-2, this afternoon. Fifth-year seniors, Paige Beebe and Lindsey Featherstone, tied the BSU record for most consecutive games played in their 148th straight game.

After a scoreless first period, both teams found a rhythm and fought to score the first goals of the game. Duluth’s Anna Klein was the first to score off a behind-the-net pass from Elizabeth Giguere. Five minutes later, Naomi Rogge found the back of the net in a similar fashion with an assist from Clara Van Wieren. During the second half of the second period, the Bulldogs earned two more goals from Naomi Rogge and Katie Davis.

Opening the third period down 4-0, freshman Claire Vekich was the first to find the back of the Bulldogs’ net on the powerplay, assisted by Reece Hunt and Makenna Deering. UMD’s Klein and Davis answered back with a pair of goals, minutes apart. Giguere added to the Bulldogs lead at the 11:52 mark with an assist from Klein. Taylor Larson then found the net for her first goal with 5:26 left in regulation. The Bulldogs closed the game with a goal from Anneke Linser with under a minute left.

Freshmen, Claire Vekich and Taylor Larson led the Beavers’ scoring efforts, marking one a piece. Reece Hunt had a hand in both goals, earning the first assist on both. Makenna Deering and Alyssa Watkins both added their touch to the scoresheet with one assist each.

The Beavers and Bulldogs will close their series against each other Sat., Jan. 15 at 3:01 p.m. at Amsoil Arena. The Beavers will then host St. Cloud State University and University of St. Thomas in the coming weekends.
