Beavers host Huskies at Sanford Center

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team will open 2022 home play this weekend by hosting St. Cloud State University Jan. 21-22. The Beavers (7-12-3, 4-12-2 WCHA) meet the Huskies (7-12-1, 2-11-1 WCHA) to close this season’s series against each other. Game one is slated for 3:01 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14 from the Sanford Center followed by game two Saturday at 2:01 p.m.

Bemidji State opens up 2022 home play versus St. Cloud State. The Beavers are 2-6-2 at home this season and are coming off a pair of losses against No. 8 University of Minnesota Duluth in Duluth, Minn. Bemidji State struggled to find the back of the net in game one at UMD, marking an 8-2 loss to start the weekend. The Beavers defense held the Bulldogs to three goals in the second game, losing 3-0.

Following this weekend’s series, the Beavers will host University of St. Thomas at Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. Jan. 28 and 29. Bemidji State averages 1.68 goals per game and allow opponents 3.41 goals per game. The Beavers are led by senior Graysen Myers and junior Reece Hunt who have each posted 14 points off of five goals and nine assists in 22 games this season. Hunt played a hand in both of the Beaver goals at Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 14, earning the first assist for both.

Fifth-year senior Paige Beebe follows Myers and Hunt with 13 points, posting six goals and seven assists. Freshman Claire Vekich sits in the fourth spot on the Beaver’s leader board, tallying five goals and four assists for nine points. Vekich was one of two Beavers, and freshmen, to mark goals against Minnesota Duluth this past series.

Sophomore Hannah Hogenson has been between the pipes for a majority of the season, filling in for Kerigan Dowhy, who was previously out due to injury but has begun play again. Hogenson has marked a 6-8-3 record with 52 goals allowed and 584 saves over 17 games and 16 starts.

Dowhy, a fifth-year senior from The Pas, Manitoba, was medically cleared to play prior to winter break and started in the second game of the UMD series last week. She marked 29 saves and allowed two goals in the Beavers’ 3-0 loss Saturday.

The Beavers are sixth in the WCHA standings with 13 points (4-12-2) and trail fifth-place Minnesota State by seven points.
