Beavers host Bulldogs for weekend series at Sanford Center

The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team returns home this weekend to host Ferris State University for a two-game, Central Collegiate Hockey Association series at Sanford Center, Jan. 21-22. The Beavers (13-11-0, 11-5-0 CCHA) and Bulldogs (7-17-0, 5-11-0 CCHA) clash for a two-game series beginning Friday, Jan. 21 followed by game two Saturday. Puck drop for game one is scheduled for 7:07 p.m., followed by game two at 6:07 p.m.

The Beavers enter the weekend’s action after having their three-game win streak snapped at Bowling Green State University this past weekend but took four of a possible six points from the Falcons in Bowling Green, Ohio. Bemidji State started the series with a 5-3 victory in game one but fell 3-2 during the three-on-three overtime period Saturday.

Trailing 2-0 in the third period Saturday, the Beavers scored two goals in the third period including the game-tying goal from Elias Rosén with 1:54 left to play. Rosén tied for a team-high with four points (2g-2a) over the weekend and was tabbed the CCHA Defenseman of the Week for the second time this season and third of his career.

Senior Owen Sillinger became the 10th player during the Division I era at BSU to reach 100 career points after scoring in the third period during Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss at Bowling Green. Sillinger has played in 119 career games for the Beavers and has totaled 46 goals and 54 assists for 100 points.

Sillinger joins Matt Read (143pts, ‘07-11), Luke Erickson (121pts, ’03-07), Jordan George (120pts, ’09-13), Andrew Murray (115pts, ’01-05), Brad Hunt (112pts, ’08-12), Tyler Scofield (111pts, ’05-09), Brendan Cook (102pts, ’01-05), Rob Sirianni (101pts, ’03-07) and Marty Goulet (100pts, ’99-03) as Beavers to reach the century mark during the Division I era (’99-present).

Special teams led the Beaves over the weekend and four of the teams seven goals in the series were power-play goals (4-for-6) and also scored one short-handed goal while on the penalty kill.

Freshman Mattias Sholl started each game for the Beavers and turned aside 50-of-55 shots in the series for a .909 save percentage and 2.48 goals against average.

Bemidji State hosts Ferris State this weekend for its only regular season meeting with the Bulldogs this season.

The Beavers are 16-16-5 (.500) all-time against the Bulldogs and but are just 6-8-2 (.438) when playing at home.
