Beavers host Tommies for first time in history

The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team will host the University of St. Thomas in Bemidji for the first time in history. BSU and UST met at the beginning of the season for the first time and will now be playing in the Sanford Center Jan. 28 and 29 at 6:01 p.m. and 3:01 p.m., respectively.

Bemidji State hosts St. Thomas for the first time in history this weekend. The Beavers hold a 8-13-3 overall record this season with five wins, 13 losses, and two ties in WCHA play. At home, BSU has played in 12 games, hosting a 3-7-2 record. Most recently, the Beavers hosted St. Cloud State University on Jan. 21 and 22, splitting the series with a loss in game one, 2-1, and a win in game two, 2-1.

The last time the Beavers and Tommies met, the series was split after a game one Beavers shoutout, 3-0, with St. Thomas taking the second game 2-1. Following this weekend’s series, the Beavers will head on the road to Minneapolis, Minn. to play No. 2/4 University of Minnesota.

Bemidji State averages 1.67 goals per game and allow opponents 3.25 goals per game.

The Beavers are led by senior Paige Beebe, who has totaled seven goals and seven assists for 14 points this season. Reece Hunt and Graysen Myers follow Beebe, each with five goals and nine assists for 14 points. The top three points scorers have totaled 202 shots on goal this season, Beebe with 69, Hunt with 71 and Myers with 62. Sophomore Hannah Hogenson brought home the game-two win last weekend, stopping 25 shots and allowing just one goal. Kerigan Dowhy, a fifth-year senior from The Pas, Manitoba, started in game one against St. Cloud State. This was her fifth game this season due to a knee injury in early October which led her to miss 17 of BSU’s 24 games.

The Beavers are sixth in the WCHA standings with 20 points (5-13-2) and trail fifth-place Minnesota State by six points.

Bemidji State is 1-1-0 overall versus UST and has never hosted the Tommies due to their recent move to Division I hockey. In their last series, the Beavers totaled four goals versus the Tommies’ two. The Beavers have met the Tommies twice this season, the series being the start of WCHA play for the Beavers. Paige Beebe and Reece Hunt claim the most points versus St. Thomas. Both tallied two points earlier this season, Beebe with two goals and Hunt with a goal and an assist.

Kerigan Dowhy started between the pipes in the Fall 2021 series against UST. She marked 54 saves and allowed just two goals total. Dowhy holds a 1.02 goals against average with a .964 save percentage.
