Women’s hockey defeats Mavericks 2-0

Bemidji State women’s hockey upends Minnesota State University at the Sanford Center Friday afternoon.

The Beavers got a stellar performance between the pipes by goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova who would make 22 saves for her fifth shutout of the season. Senior forward Erin Johnson scored the game winner in the second period and red shirt sophomore wing Emily Erickson would add the empty net goal with six seconds left in the third for the 2-0 win. Senior captain Annie Bauerfeld had the assist on Johnson’s goal, which means she’s had a hand in 9 of 12 of the Beavers goals scored since the start of the second half of the season.

The Beavers continue to remain perfect on the penalty kill. They have now stopped their opponents from scoring on the power play through 25 consecutive opportunities. BSU also improves their record at home to 7-3-1.

The Beavers wrap up the season series finale against the Mavericks at the Sanford Center Saturday at 2:07pm. Following the game, kids are invited on the ice for “Skate with the Beavers.”
