The Bemidji State University baseball team lost 2-1 and 11-0 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader at Augustana College Saturday, going 0-4 in the four-game series. The Beavers were 10-run ruled in game two, playing seven innings.  

Fresh off a complete game shutout March 27 junior right-hander Ryan Sander (St. James, Minn.) was called upon in game one to slow the high-powered offense of the Vikings (14-8, 6-0 NSIC). Augie had produced 71 runs in its five previous games, but Sander was able to hold the Vikings to two runs that unfortunately came off two pitches. Sander allowed just six hits in the loss, two of which were shots over the fence of Ronken Field that gave Augustana the only two runs it would need as its pitching staff held BSU to one run on four hits. The second Viking bomb came in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out to avoid extra innings.

The  Beavers (9-13, 3-5 NSIC) got its one run in the first inning on a junior Mauricio Gomez (Caracas, Venezuela) two out single up the middle that scored freshman Dylan Webb (INF, Phoenix, Ariz.).
 
The Augie pitching staff continued to stifle the Beaver bats in game two, allowing just five hits in the shutout. The game started out as a pitching duel as BSU sophomore lefty Phil Bray (Chatfield, Minn.) pitched two scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the bottom of the third. He allowed a lead-off triple in the fourth, but got out of the inning unscathed. Unfortunately a three-run fifth by the Vikings ended Bray’s outing as he was only able to get one out in the inning, allowing a total of five runs (all earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.

With a 5-0 lead heading into the seventh, the Vikings put a six-spot on the board to end the game early, due to the 10-run rule the NSIC has for nine inning conference games. Five of the runs were unearned as the Beavers committed two errors in the inning, including one with two outs and the bases loaded that kept the Vikings a the plate. Sophomore Lewis Baumann (MIF, Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the lone BSU batter to recorded a muti-hit game all day, going 2-for-3, but had the second error of the seventh inning that led to the early end to the contest.
 
Next up for BSU is its home opener April 9-10 as Concordia University, St. Paul comes to Bemidji, Minn. for a four-game series. The April 9 doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. at the BSU Baseball Field.
