Two Named Preseason All American

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University center Cory Immerman (Sr., Becker, Minn.) and tight end Brian Leonhardt (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) have been named to the Consensus Draft Services 2011 Preseason All-America Honorable Mention Football Team.  The announcement came from organization officials Monday.

A Second-Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) center, Immerman started every game for BSU last fall. He anchored an offensive line that paved the way for ground game that gained an average of 187.1 yards per game, which included a pair of 100-yard games and the program’s first 200-yard game in more than seven seasons. The line also protected Edholm, who was able to throw for 144.1 yards per game and pass for 15 touchdowns.

The three-time letterwinner has started 32 of 33 games since beginning his collegiate playing career at BSU.

Leonhardt, a First-Team All-NSIC pick in 2010, finished second on the team in receptions and yards with 351 yards on 28 receptions for a 12.5 yards per catch average, all of which surpassed his totals as a freshman. He scored three touchdowns, scoring twice in a Oct. 30 41-13 victory versus Northern State University. In addition, Leonhardt was named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-District Second Team.

An All-NSIC Honorable Mention selection as a freshman, Leonhardt is a two-time letter winner at BSU.  In 2009, he led all receivers with 24 receptions and seven touchdown catches.

Also a member of the BSU indoor and outdoor track and field teams, the Blaine, Minn. native is an All-NSIC thrower and owns the school’s discus (169-05) and hammer throw (177-06) records.

The Beavers are coming off a 2010 season in which they were 7-4 overall and 6-4 in NSIC play, tying for fifth in the league standings. Three losses came to three NCAA post-season participants, University of Minnesota Duluth, Augustana College and St. Cloud State University. The other loss was to 2010 Mineral Water Bowl participant, Concordia University, St. Paul. Under head coach Jeff Tesch, BSU has recorded 12 season with a record of at least .500 in his 15 years at the helm.

The Beavers will return 30 regulars for the 2011 season. BSU begins the 2011 campaign Aug. 25 when it will host Minot State University at Chet Anderson Stadium for the 13th annual ‘Beaver Bash.’ The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
