BSU Women’s Hockey Names New Assistant Coach

Bemidji State University women’s hockey will have a new addition to their coaching staff during the 2011-12 season. Former BSU player and record holder Amber Fryklund announced the news on facebook earlier today that she accepted the assistant coaching job left vacant by Heather Farrell this summer.

Fryklund will have big shoes to fill as she takes over for Farrell who accepted a head coaching job at a prep school out east. Farrell coached at BSU from 2007 through 2011 and was part of a coaching staff who has turned the Beavers into a force to be reckoned with.

Fryklund holds a number of records from her playing time at BSU (2000-03) including most career points (122). She finished her career with 59 goals and 63 assists. Fryklund is from Hibbing, Minnesota and has been coaching at Duluth Marshall High School for the past two years.

Look for the official announcement of Amber Fryklund’s hiring from BSU’s Athletic Media Relations Department in the coming days.

The Beavers open up their season with an exhibition game at the Sanford Center on September 23 at 7:07pm against the Thunder Bay Queens. Tune into the game broadcast on the Beaver Radio Network. Click on the women’s hockey tab at the top of this page for the full schedule.
