Mavericks Upset #8 BSU Women’s Hockey

Last night at the Sanford Center, the Bemidji State women’s hockey team was upset by WCHA foe Minnesota State by the final score of 2-1. The Maverick win over the #8/10 ranked Beavers was only MSU’s third win in league play this season and the second time this year they’ve defeated BSU.

The Beavers lowly goal was scored by freshman Kristin Huber who was set up by fellow freshman Whitney Wivoda and senior defender Kimberly Lieder. Despite a good outing by senior goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova, the Beavers were caught off guard when the Mavs scored two goals within 20 seconds of each other just shy of midway into the third period.

One of the bright spots for Bemidji State was their penalty killers who were successful on killing off a 5×3 and kept Minnesota State from scoring on the man advantage throughout the game.

Friday’s haven’t been kind to the Beavers. The loss was the Beavers 6th on the first night of a weekend series. BSU is 3-6-2 in the first night of a two game meeting.

The final meeting of the regular season between the Beavers and the Mavericks is tonight at the Sanford Center in Bemidji. The puck drops at 7:07pm CST. Tickets for the game are only $7 for adults, $2 for children and $2 for all youth hockey players and coaches.

Tonight’s game radio broadcast begins at 6:30pm with the Budweiser Pregame Show on WMIS 92.1 “The River” and online at www.beaverradionetwork.com.
