The Bemidji State University football team will host six games in 2014, which includes two home contests under the lights at Chet Anderson Stadium. All 11 contests will serve as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games, starting with a battle at Wayne State College Sept. 6.

To start the season, the Beavers are pitted against four NSIC South Division teams they saw in 2012. The Wayne State contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start. BSU is 7-10 all-time against the Wildcats, but fell in the last meeting 20-17 at home.

The home opener is scheduled for Sept. 13 with University of Sioux Falls visiting Bemidji, Minn. for the first time as members of the NSIC. The 6 p.m. contest will also serve as the 18th Annual Shrine Game. BSU is 10-7 in the Shrine Game, while the meeting with the Cougars is just the fourth in program history. BSU last hosted USF Sept. 3, 1983 with BSU winning 31-0. In 2012, the Beavers traveled to Sioux Falls and fell 21-5.

Sept. 20 Bemidji State travels to Upper Iowa University for a 6 p.m. contest. BSU is 5-0 all-time against the Peacocks, but has only traveled to Fayette, Iowa once. The Beavers downed UIU 48-7 on the road in 2011, while the last meeting came at “The Chet” in 2012 with BSU winning 25-23.

NSIC South play concludes Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. when the Beavers host defending NSIC Champions Minnesota State University, Mankato. MSU went 11-0 in league play and earned a bye in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season in 2013. BSU traveled to Mankato, Minn. Sept. 9, 2012 and lost 38-10 to fall to 14-29-2 all-time against the Mavericks.

BSU turns its attention to the NSIC North Division, where it went 1-6 last season, Oct. 4 at University of Mary. The 2:30 p.m. contest will serve as the ninth all-time meeting between the Beavers and Marauders. After suffering a 26-17 home loss last season, Bemidji State is now an even 4-4 (2-2 on the road) against U-Mary.

The Beavers host four of their last six games, starting with an Oct. 11 contest against University of Minnesota Crookston. Last season, BSU lost to the Golden Eagles for the first time in 14 meetings and the second setback all-time (19-2), as the Beavers went on the road and suffered a 16-14 loss on a safety in the game’s final 1:30. The loss stripped BSU of The Hubcap, a traveling trophy created in 2004 to signify the Highway 2 rivalry. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and serves as the Lions’ Vision Awareness Game.

The annual homecoming game is set for Oct. 18, when Minot State University visits Bemidji for a 2:30 p.m. battle of the Beaver moniker. BSU owns a 14-1 all-time record against Minot State, which includes a 35-14 road victory last season. Bemidji State is 14-5 on homecoming since adopting the tradition of jumping into Lake Bemidji after a victory.

The Beavers wrap regular season road play Oct. 25 at University of Minnesota Duluth and Nov. 1 at St. Cloud State University. Both contests against the two 2013 NCAA Tournament teams are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. BSU is 10-42-1 all-time against Minnesota Duluth, which includes a 12-game losing skid (31-21 home loss in 2013). The Beavers trail St. Cloud State 18-36-3 in the all-time series that dates back to 1927, but own a 2-1 record in the last three meetings. BSU had won two straight, which included a 37-20 road win in 2012, before falling at home last season by the score of 45-6.

Bemidji State returns home for a Nov. 8 meeting with longtime rival Minnesota State University Moorhead. The 1 p.m. contest also serves as a meeting for The Battle Axe, a traveling trophy between the programs since 1948. BSU trails the all-time Axe series 28-35-3. Despite a 35-17 road loss last season, BSU is 12-2 in the last 14 games against the Dragons.

The regular season comes to a close Nov. 15 as the Beavers celebrate senior day in a 1 p.m. game against Northern State University. BSU suffered a 27-0 road loss to the Wolves last season, but have won the last nine meetings at “The Chet,” dating back to 1995.

The Beavers began their 15-practice spring ball season March 30. The 15th and final session will serve as the annual Green and White Spring Game, scheduled for April 24 at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, BSU will hold a Youth Clinic on the turf at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The game is free and open to the public. The clinic is for kids in grades K-6 from 5-6 p.m. Registration for the clinic is $15 and will be held indoors at BSU’s Gillette Recreation/Fitness Center in the case of inclement weather.
