Weekend Recap – Week 2 at Northern Michigan

Not a bad start to the season. BSU is undefeated through the first two weeks of the season, and they lead the country in scoring offense (4.50 goals per game). They’re also getting scoring by committee, which is much safer than relying on one line to do all the scoring.

This weekend, Chris McKelvie was a stud. Here’s what Tyler Lehrke said about C-Mack… “It’s great playing with Chris McKelvie. He’s one of the fastest guys in college hockey and he’s probably the hardest working guy on our team. He’s a natural leader, we all look up him. He’s got great work ethic, we all look up to him and that’s why he’s our captain.”

Not bad praise!

Mathieu Dugas got the win (and a shutout) in his collegiate debut. Only two other BSU goalies have done that…Jim Scanlan and Matt Climie.

Not bad company!

BSU will travel to Huntsville this weekend for a Saturday – Sunday series. Huntsville lost twice this weekend to Western Michigan. If BSU keeps playing like they have been on special teams, it’s going to be hard for the Chargers (or anyone) to win. BSU has scored four power play goals…and two short handed goals on the season. Meanwhile, they’ve only given up three power play goals, and no short handed goals. In this era, if you win the special teams battle, you win the game.
