WCHA Introduces Changes to Overtime, Points Structure and Nets

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced changes to the overtime policy for league games today, saying that beginning this season (2016-2017) all games tied after regulation would continue with a traditional five-on-five sudden death overtime. If the game was still tied after the five-on-five overtime, another five minute overtime session will be played…also sudden death…but also with just three skaters aside.

Also new this year, the league will adopt 40 inch deep nets…the same used in the NHL…rather than the traditional 44 inch deep nets. The smaller nets will lead to more room for skaters behind the net.

The Beaver Radio Network had a chance to visit with Head Men’s Coach Tom Serratore about the changes.
