Beaver Fever Friday – Rachael Norton – Soccer

Following the Bemidji State University soccer team’s 3-0-0 season-opening road trip, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference officials have announced that BSU defender, Miranda Famestad, has been selected as its Defensive Player of the Week, for her role in the strong start.

Famestad, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., anchored a BSU backline that held its opponents without a goal through 270 minutes of play this season, propelling the Beavers to a 3-0 start. The BSU defense has surrendered 14 shots through three games and just four shots on goal. Famestad has played in a team-high 242 of 270 minutes of action and started all three matches.

The NSIC honor is the second of her career and marks the first for the Beavers in 2017.

The Beavers, 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action, now return to Bemidji, Minn. and Chet Anderson Stadium to open the home portion of their season Saturday when they welcome Upper Iowa University for a 1 p.m. opening kick. BSU will continue NSIC play at 1 p.m. Sunday when Winona State University visits The Chet. Sunday’s game can be heard on the Beaver Radio Network.
