Beaver Fever Friday – Volleyball- Maddie Filipiak

Bemidji State University volleyball head coach Kevin Ulmer announced the addition of five student-athletes to the volleyball program for the 2018 season. Mary Campbell (RS/M, Faribault, Minn.), Taylor Kot (Libero, Oconomowoc, Wis.), Maddie Mackinac (Setter, Rosemount, Minn.), Greta Paszek (OH, Hartland, Wis.) and Haley Stolt (OH, Savage, Minn.) signed National Letters of Intent to attend Bemidji State.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

BSU wraps up the regular season this weekend playing at Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State.

Mary Campbell – 5-11 – RS/M – Faribault, Minn. (Bethlehem Academy HS)
Bethlehem Academy HS: Three-time first team All-Conference and All-State selection at Bethlehem Academy High School… Helped lead the Cardinals to five-straight conference championships as well as three state championship appearances including a state championship in 2014 and a state runner-up finish in 2015… Won 2015 Premier National Championship with her club volleyball team.

Personal: Born on December 16, 1999 and is the daughter of David and Anita Campbell… Plans to major in Integrated media while attending Bemidji State… During her free time, Campbell enjoys creating art and watching movies.

Ulmer on Campbell: “Mary Campbell does it all. She’s played every front court position; she is a dependable, efficient hitter and plays six rotations. Mary doesn’t shy away from a challenge and stares down the competition. She’s ready to compete every day and can beat you with power or control.”

Taylor Kot – 5-1 – Libero – Oconomowoc, Wis. (Oconomowoc HS)
Oconomowoc HS: Kot helped the Raccoons volleyball squad win their 2015 conference championship… She led her club volleyball team to a 13th place finish at nationals… Earned a spot on the Oconomowoc High School honor roll four-straight years, including High-honors the last two.

Personal: Born on December 30, 1999 and is the daughter of Chris and Jackie Kot… Plans to major in Dentistry and minor in Biology while attending Bemidji State.

Ulmer on Kot: “Taylor is a defensive specialist, and when I think of Taylor playing volleyball I think of the girl who chases every loose ball, dives to make a dig and sprints to cover her hitters. She’s the kind of kid that you have to have in the gym to raise everyone’s commitment to defense. She will bring a high effort brand of volleyball to BSU.”

Maddie Mackinac – 5-10 – Setter – Rosemount, Minn. (Rosemount HS)
Rosemount HS: Was named Rosemount HS Volleyball MVP, All-Conference, and STMA All-Tournament Team in 2016 and also is the single-season assist record holder… Helped lead her club team to victories at the AAU Premier and USJO American National Tournaments.

Personal: Born on March 3, 2000 and is the daughter of Rich and Cheryl Mackinac… Plans to major in occupational therapy while attending Bemidji State… When not playing volleyball, Mackinac enjoys playing golf, spending time with family and friends and traveling to new places.

Ulmer on Mackinac: “Maddie is a setter for our 2018 class. Maddie’s strengths are in her composure and consistency. She’s able to manage the game from an offensive standpoint and has an eye for finding teams weaknesses and getting her team matched up with them. Maddie will never shy away from a moment to laugh but doesn’t lose sight of the competition.”

Greta Paszek – 5-11 – OH – Hartland, Wis. (Arrowhead HS)
Hartland HS: Paszek was named an All-State honorable mention in 2017… Helped her AAU team win the national championship in 2014 as well as finish fourth in 2016 and seventh in 2017… Has garnered All-State honorable mention as both a sophomore and junior.

Personal: Born on October 17, 1999 and is the daughter of Tony and Ronda Paszek… Currently undecided on a major while attending Bemidji State… When she isn’t playing volleyball, Paszek enjoys jet-skiing, photography and painting during her free time… Two siblings brother Jordan played baseball at Dominican College and sister Makenzie played volleyball at Concordia University (Wis.)… Father Tony played baseball at University of Evansville.

Ulmer on Paszek: “Greta is a very well rounded attacker. With experience on both pins and some in the middle. Greta can handle hitting from anywhere. She’s a dynamic player with the potential to play six rotations for us. She also brings a great personality to the court; she’s uplifting, excitable, and energetic.”

Haley Stolt – 6-0 – OH – Savage, Minn. (Prior Lake HS)
Prior Lake HS: Led Prior Lake High School to back-to-back State Tournament appearances, finishing second and fifth… Helped lead her club team to a third place finish at the 2017 AAU National Championship… Named to the Prior Lake HS Honor Roll and Dean’s List as well as National Honor Society member.

Personal: Born on September 17, 1999 and is the daughter of Bob and Deb Stolt… Currently undecided on a major while attending Bemidji State… When she isn’t playing volleyball, Stolt enjoys running and gardening.

Ulmer on Stolt: “Haley is a left side that has the potential to play six rotations. She’s a very solid passer, a great defender and a competitor. What makes Haley different is her mindset for the future. She’s a very goal oriented girl and I know she’s committed to the climb ahead of us at BSU.”
