Beaver Fever Friday – Jai’Vionne Green – Mens Basketball

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team begins Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Saturday, Nov. 25 with a trip to face University of Minnesota Crookston at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Beavers (3-2) and Golden Eagles (2-3) begin the 64th all-time meeting between the two programs at 4 p.m. in Crookston, Minn.

Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston have met 63 times in the all-time series, led by BSU, 48-15. BSU has taken three of the last four meetings and held a 23-1 record against UMC between Dec. 19, 2001 – Nov. 29, 2014.

Both teams took a win in the series during the 2016-17 season, each on its own home court.

The Golden Eagles took the first game of the season series, 82-81, thanks to a free throw with three seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore guard Jai’Vionne Green led all Beavers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting while senior guard Sharif Black recorded 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Beavers answered with a 77-75 win against the Golden Eagles in Bemidji, Minn., despite UMC outscoring BSU, 50-35, in the second half. Sophomore forward Lucas Wendt came off the bench to lead BSU with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-3 on 3-pointers. Black again scored 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting why Green totaled 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting.
