Beaver Fever Friday – Track – Christa Benson

The Bemidji State University track and field team ramps up the 2017-18 indoor season with The Opener held Saturday, Dec. 9 in Duluth, Minn. College of St. Scholastica hosts the event from the Burns Wellness Commons in the Beavers’ second event of the indoor season.

Bemidji State will take part in the full range of track and field events, including weight throw, long jump, pole vault, high jump, 60m hurdles, 60m dash, 200m dash, 400m run, 600m run, one-mile run, 3,000m run and 4x400m relay. The Beavers will begin participation Saturday morning.

Junior Christa Benson set a new personal record in the pentathlon in BSU’s first meet of the season, the South Dakota State University Holiday Open and Multi. She bested her previous pentathlon record with a mark of 2,926 in Brookings, S.D. Benson also set a personal best mark of 28-feet-11.75-inches in the shot put as part of the competition, where she finished 14th overall.

Three freshmen made their first appearances with the Beavers at the meet, led by Cheri’a Adams with a pentathlon mark of 2,770 to finish 16th overall. Adams led BSU in the 60m hurdles (9.74), shot put (30-4.75) and long jump (16-7.25). Aneesa Tucker finished the meet 18th overall with a mark of 2,678, followed by Libby Christenson in 20th with a score of 2,400 who led BSU in the high jump with a mark of 4-9.00.
