Sophomore center Sydney Arrington led the charge for a Bemidji State University women’s basketball second-half comeback Saturday afternoon in a 52-51 win over St. Cloud State University in Bemidji, Minn. Arrington led the Beavers (2-4, 1-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) with 16 points, including 12 in the second half, as the team overcame a 15-point deficit in the second half.

The Beavers run back to take the game started in the third quarter, as BSU eventually cut SCSU’s lead down to three points after a 29-16 deficit at halftime. A 13-4 run for BSU was capped off by a 3-pointer from freshman guard Sydney Zerr, her first points of the night, with 3:13 remaining in the game. After trailing 38-35, SCSU answered on the following possession and again extended the lead to as many as seven points before ending the third quarter with a 45-40 lead.

Freshman guard Brooklyn Bachmann’s first successful field goal in the fourth quarter brought Bemidji State to within two points. Similar to the third quarter when BSU trailed three points, SCSU answered with a basket to keep the lead at two possessions. Senior guard Mikayla Larson’s second and final 3-pointer of the game came with 1:57 on the clock, again bringing BSU within two points, 50-48. Unlike the previous time, the Huskies were not able to answer on the ensuing possession.

Arrington converted on an and-one opportunity soon after to give Bemidji State its first lead since early in the first quarter, 51-50. Arrington and Bachmann’s scores were part of a 9-0 run until SCSU had an opportunity at the free throw line to tie the game, but missed the front end of two shots. The Beavers fouled twice to run the clock before eventually forcing the final Huskies off the mark to seal the win.

Arrington scored her 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from the charity stripe. Bachmann followed with 13 points while senior forward Sam Adamich helped control the ball for BSU with a team-high and career-high 11 rebounds.

Bemidji State’s defense held St. Cloud State to 29.9 percent shooting for the game and 22.9 percent in the second half, including 13.3 percent in the fourth quarter. After trailing the margin on the glass at halftime, the Beavers outrebounded the Huskies, 27-25, in the second half.

Bemidji State makes its first NSIC road trip Friday Dec. 8-9 as it travels to face No. 19 Northern State University and (RV) Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Beavers open the weekend Friday against the Wolves at 6 p.m. from Aberdeen, S.D., followed by a 4 p.m. tip-off Saturday against the Dragons from Moorhead, Minn.
