Beavers to take part in full weekend at UND Indoor Open

The Bemidji State University track and field team is set to take part in the full weekend of events at the University of North Dakota Indoor Open Friday, Jan. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 27 at the UND High Performance Center.

Bemidji State opens the event Friday at 3 p.m. with the discus throw and pentathlon, the only events for BSU on the day. The Beavers get back to action Saturday with five field events, including the weight throw, shot put, long jump, triple jump and high jump, beginning at 12 p.m. BSU will also take part in five track events, including the 60m dash, 200m dash, 800m run, one-mile run and the 4x400m relay, starting at 1 p.m.

Last weekend, freshman Venice Stewart brought home two first-place finishes, in the 60m dash with a time of 7.91 and the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 1:00.87. Joining Stewart with first-place finishes included junior Kelsey Hurley in the high jump (5-03.25), freshman Cheri’a Adams in the long jump (16-05.75) and the 4x800m relay team of freshman Brittny Hillstrom, junior Sarone Paulzine, senior Madison Kealy and freshman Ashley Kinnard (11:13.72). Junior Christa Benson set the BSU indoor program record in the 200m hurdles with a time of 29.23 and a second place finish. In total, Bemidji State placed 17 student-athletes among the top five of their respective categories. Eleven Beavers also set personal records in their events on the day.
