Beaver Fever Friday – Men’s Hockey – Kyle Bauman

Bemidji State hits the road, plays Alabama-Huntsville for a pair of WCHA games this weekend

The Beavers open their series with long-time rival Alabama-Huntsville Friday at 7:07 p.m. from the Chargers’ Von Braun Center.

Since the series got it start in 1994, BSU and UAH have met on 84 previous occasions, with Bemidji State holding a 49-30-5 edge in the all-time series, which includes head-to-head battles for the NCAA Division II national titles in 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998. Bemidji State came out of those battles with national championships in 1994 and 1997. In 1999 the teams made the jump to the NCAA Division I level and were founding members of College Hockey America. After the league disbanded following the 2009-10 season, the Beavers and Chargers reunited as members of the WCHA in 2013-14.

The Beavers open the series looking to write a new entry in the program’s record book. Riding an eight-game WCHA winning streak and unbeaten in 11 straight league games, BSU can establish new program Division I-era records for consecutive league wins and its longest conference unbeaten streak with a win Friday and a sweep in the series.

Bemidji State swept the Chargers Dec. 29-30 when BSU hosted UAH, 3-1 and 4-1.
