What's It Like on the Road With the Beavers?
A lot of people ask me what it's like to travel with the Beavers. Here's my itinerary for the Miami trip:
Thursday, October 6
7:30am - report to the Sanford Center for a 7:45am departure
7:45am - bus leaves the rink for the Minneapolis airport
11:30am - arrive at the airport
12:30pm - lunch at the airport
1:30pm - flight leaves for Cincinnati
3:30pm - arrive in Cincinnati
4:30pm - board a bus for Hamilton, Ohio
5:30pm - arrive in Hamilton (where the hotel is)
5:45pm - leave for Oxford for practice
7:00pm - practice
8:00pm - off the ice
8:30pm - leave rink for dinner
9:00pm - dinner at MIA in Oxford (I highly suggest the pork chop!)
10:30pm - depart for hotel
11:00pm - arrive at hotel (watch the baseball playoffs til bedtime)
Friday, October 7
8:30am - wake up call
9:00am - breakfast in hotel
9:30am - depart for practice
10:00am - arrive at rink for 11am practice
10:15am - find someone with keys to the press box to start setting up equipment
11:00am - test all equipment including microphones in the locker room for intermission and postgame interviews
12:00pm - practice ends, record Tom's pregame interview
12:30pm - depart for hotel
1:00pm - arrive at hotel, print out notes for the game, edit pregame interviews
2:30pm - depart for lunch (the team ate at the hotel, staff went to Skyline Chili - I highly suggest the 4-way with Coney dogs!)
3:30pm - quick cat nap
4:00pm - get dressed for the game
4:40pm - leave for rink
11:00pm - arrive at hotel after a Beaver win!
11:15pm - postgame meal at the hotel
12:00am - edit all goal highlights and postgame interviews for use on Saturday
12:30am - find a song applicable for the Saturday open song. I settled on Wild Night by Snow White
1:00am - lights out
As you can tell...couple long days!
It's alright, though. I don't realize how long of days they are when you enjoy your job!
