BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University athletic department and Beaver hockey program will honor four-year letterman and former assistant coach Scott Monsrud Saturday, Nov. 21 as the BSU men's hockey team hosts University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Monsrud, 48, lost a year-long battle with cancer Oct. 6, 2009. A dedicated husband, father, member of his community and Beaver hockey alum leaves behind his wife Zola, and his two children, Mackenzie and Christian.

Monsrud accumulated 48 goals and 47 assists for 95 points from 1980-1984 playing on teams that posted an overall record of 113-18-2. He was a member of the 1983-84 club that ran the table and assembled a perfect 31-0-0 record en route to the 1984 NCAA Division II National Championship.

A proven goal scorer, Monsrud flanked a line centered by Joel Otto (1980-84) during his final season and capped his collegiate career as an All-America selection.

Monsrud also spent time behind the bench, serving as legendary head coach R.H. “Bob” Peters' assistant from 1984-86, helping the green and white to a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) championships and a NCAA Division III title.

In honor of Scott and his contributions to Beaver hockey, Bemidji State has selected his father Ken, his daughter Mackenzie and his brother, Eric, also a BSU hockey alum, as honorary captains for Saturday night and all three we be a part of the ceremonial opening face off. In addition, all of the proceeds from Saturday's jersey raffle will go directly to benefit Scott's wife and children.
