Baseball Drops Two Games To Open Series at Augie

The Bemidji State University baseball team allowed 10 runs in the first two innings of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader at Augustana College Friday, leading to 7-3 and 4-1 losses.

The Vikings (12-8, 4-0 NSIC) scored three runs in the first and three in the second to own a 6-1 lead after two and they never looked back. The Beavers (9-11, 3-3 NSIC) could only muster four hits in the game, the lowest hit output by the team this season. Senior outfielder Nick Jelacie (Brainerd, Minn.) went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI with a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning.  

Freshman left-hander Aaron Young (Urbandale, Iowa) started game one, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Freshman right-hander Miles Campbell (Eden Prairie, Minn.) relieved Young and threw 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits and one run scored (unearned) with four strikeouts.

Augie again jumped on the Beavers in game two, scoring a pair of runs in the first and second innings to own a 4-0 lead. BSU scored its lone run in the sixth inning. Freshman Cody Bergquist (INF, Chisago Lakes, Minn.) started the inning with a lead-off walk and eventually scored on a two out error by the Vikings. The Beavers could only find six hits in the nine inning contest, getting one from five different batters.

Senior right-hander Ryan Gebur (New Prague, Minn.) started on the bump for BSU, going 6.1 innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts. After the second inning, Gebur settled down and allowed just two hits and zero runs.
   
The teams will close the four-game series Saturday with a twin-bill starting at 12 p.m.
