The Bemidji State University baseball team fell 6-1 and 7-3 in a nonconference doubleheader Sunday at Wayne State College, evening the Beavers' record in 2011 to 6-6.

Bemidji State has moved its nonconference doubleheader with Minnesota State University, Mankato from Tuesday, March 22 to Monday, March 21 in Wayne, Neb at 12 p.m. The twin-bill was originally scheduled to be played at Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, Minn.

The Beavers scored their lone run in the second inning of game one, unfortunately the Wildcats (7-7) had scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. WSC added one in the second and another in the fourth in the 6-1 victory. BSU left six runners on base in the game.

Freshman Ryan Rothing (RHP, Belgrade, Mont.) three five complete and got one out in the sixth, allowing all six runs (all earned) on seven hits, walking three and striking out three. Senior outfielder Colton Smith (Waddel, Ari.) had the only multi-hit game for BSU, going 2-for-4.

The Beavers scored a run in the top of the first when senior outfielder Nick Jelacie (Brainerd, Minn.) crossed the plate after drawing a lead-off walking, advancing to third on a failed pick-off attempt and scoring on an infield groundout. Unfortunately, a BSU error in the bottom of the first allowed the Wildcats to post another big first inning, tacking on a three-spot, all unearned.

The two run deficit remained until BSU scored a single run in the fifth inning, making the score 3-2. Jelacie again scored for the green and white, getting a one-out double, moving to third on a wild pitch and then scoring again off the bat of freshman Cody Bergquist (Chisago Lakes, Minn.) on a single to short.

The Wildcats responded with a four-run fifth inning, again using the big inning to discourage the Beavers. BSU added a single run in the sixth, but couldn't muster another late inning comeback like the day before and fell 7-3.

Jelacie scored three runs on the day, getting the solo mark in game one. Bergquist had two RBI in game two, while freshman Cole Bjorge (Prior Lake, Minn.) went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Sophomore left-hander Phil Bray (Chatfield, Minn.) allowed all seven runs, but only four were earned, on six hits. He had six strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings.
