Former Bemidji State men's hockey player Matt Read is having a rookie season in the NHL that most can only dream of. Read's on the radar for the Calder Trophy and just recently played in this year's NHL Winter Classic. As of 12:45am eastern time today, the Philadelphia Flyer rookie can also add another thing to his NHL resume: NHL All-Star Rookie.

The NHL announced today that Matt Read is one of 12 NHL rookies who were invited to the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, Canada on Sunday, January 29th at 3pm CT. According to NHL.com, the final two teams will be selected by this year's All-Star Captains at the 2012 NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft on Thursday, January 26th.

As of last night, Read has tallied 13 goals and 12 assists in 38 games for the Philadelphia Flyers. More recently, Read has filled in for veteran center Jaromir Jagr on the top line, while Jagr was out with an injury.
