Veteran Bemidji State University goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova, who collected her 15th career shutout in a season-opening 0-0 overtime tie with No. 10-ranked Providence last Friday (Sept. 30) before leading her club to a 3-1 victory last Saturday (Oct. 1), is the WCHA Women's Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 5, 2011.

A senior from Bratislava, Slovakia, Tomcikova stopped all 23 Providence shots on goal in the scoreless draw, collecting her 15th career shutout. She then got the call between the pipes again on Saturday, this time allowing just one goal while making a total of 31 saves as BSU prevailed 3-1. The was named the No. 3 star of each game.

Tomcikova's 29th victory between the Bemidji State pipes inched her closer to Bre Dedrickson's school record for career wins (33). A former Olympic goaltender for Team Slovakia, Tomcikova also has 2,566 saves in her collegiate career and needs 509 more to surpass Emily Brookshaw's 3,075 save mark at BSU.
