Beavers drop two to Ferris State and Shepherd
The Bemidji State University softball team fell in both of its games Wednesday morning in Kissimmee, Fla., to continue its spring break trip. The Beavers (9-7) began the day by falling to Ferris State University 2-0 and fell to Shepherd University 7-4 in the following game.
Ferris State 2, Bemidji State 0
Bemidji State totaled six hits against the Bulldogs but the Bulldogs’ defense held the Beavers off the scoreboard and earned the 2-0 shutout in the first action of the day.
The Beavers and Bulldogs were each held scoreless through the first six innings but Ferris State broke through in the top of the seventh with two runs off of base hits. BSU came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh and had freshman Elaina Christiansen on second base but couldn’t string together any hits to break the shutout.
Senior Rochelle Koshalek pitched all seven innings for the Beavers and allowed just the two runs off of eight hits but falls to 1-2 on the season.
Bemidji State 4, Shepherd 7
The Beavers took advantage of four Rams’ errors in game two of the day to score four runs but it wouldn’t be enough as BSU fell to Shepherd 7-4 in the game.
Shepherd started the scoring in the third inning with a bases clearing double to go up 3-0. Bemidji State responded to tie the game the next inning by scoring three runs off of two Ram’s errors. However, the Rams bounced back with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-3 while an RBI single by Brooke Phillips in the seventh made the final score to be 7-4.
Freshman Kaidron McClafferty earned her first loss of the season after pitching five innings and gave up seven runs, four unearned, off of eight hits and struck out four.
The Beavers fall to 8-7 after the pair of losses and look to bounce back tomorrow morning by facing Bentley University and Indiana University-Pennsylvania at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
