Men’s Basketball to face Marauders, Beavers on the road
Bemidji State University men’s basketball travels Feb. 14-15 for its final road trip of the season against the University of Mary and Minot State University. BSU begins the weekend at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Marauders in Bismarck, N.D., followed by the weekend-finale at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against the Beavers in Minot, N.D.
UMary leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 16-10. The Marauders took the first game of the 2019-20 season series, 78-77, on Jan. 25 in Bemidji, Minn., continuing a trend of the road team winning each matchup over the last three seasons.
Junior guard Nick Wagner hit four 3-pointers and went 8-of-12 overall shooting on his way to a game-high 23 points against UMary. Senior forward Logan Bader followed with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, with eight rebounds. Junior forward Derek Thompson and sophomore guard Max Bjorklund each added 12 points.
The series began Dec. 18, 1971, a 92-87 win by UMary.
Bemidji State leads the all-time series against Minot State, 12-11. Minot State has won seven of the last eight games versus Bemidji State, including the first meeting of the 2019-20 season, 74-67, on Jan. 24 in Bemidji.
Bjorklund scored a game-high 19 points with a team-high five rebounds while sophomore forward Cody Landwehr followed with 15 points off the bench. Landwehr’s 15 points was his first time in double-digits since returning from injury on Jan. 10. Bader, Thompson and Wagner also scored in double-figures against MiSU in the starting lineup.
The series began Dec. 18, 1969, an 86-82 win by Bemidji State in Mayville, N.D. The two programs took breaks of 15 (1972-87) and 11 years (1990-2001) before they started to play each season.
