Women’s Basketball hosts SCSU, UMD over senior day weekend

Bemidji State University women’s basketball will play its final weekend of the regular season Feb. 21-22 at BSU Gymnasium versus St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers begin the weekend at 5:30 p.m. Friday against the Huskies before BSU honors its lone senior at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against the Bulldogs.

St. Cloud State leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 43-17. SCSU has won five straight in the series with BSU’s most recent win coming on Dec. 2, 2017, 52-51. The Huskies won the first meeting of the 2019-20 series, 65-53, in St. Cloud, Minn.

Sophomore guard Trinity Myer led BSU with 14 points and six assists while freshman center Rachael Heittola recorded 11 points with a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. Sophomore forward Claire Wolhowe also grabbed seven rebounds.

The series began in 1969, a win by Bemidji State. The Beavers won five of the first six games of the series.

Minnesota Duluth leads the all-time series against Bemidji State, 74-30. UMD has won five consecutive games in the series and 22 of the last 23, with BSU’s most recent win coming on Jan. 7, 2017 in Bemidji, 60-57. The Bulldogs took down the Beavers, 62-41, during the first game of the 2019-20 season series.

All 10 Beavers who played in the game were held below 10 points. Junior guard Sydney Zerr led the team with nine points. Junior guard Brooklyn Bachmann, junior center Taylor Bray and Heittola led the Beavers with six rebounds each.

The series began in 1968, a win by Bemidji State. The Beavers won 13 consecutive games between 1971 and 1977.
