Beaver Fever Friday – Mens Hockey – Tyler Vold

Bemidji State takes a four-game winning streak to Ferris State in return to WCHA play

The Bemidji State University men’s hockey team hits the road for its first Western Collegiate Hockey Association series in a month this weekend when it faces Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. The series is set to get underway at 6:07 p.m. (Central) Friday before wrapping up with a 6:07 p.m. opening faceoff Saturday from Ewigleben Arena.

Coming off four straight wins and a 5-1-1 record during the month of January, the Beavers look to continue their recent success as they open play in the final month of the regular season and a 10-game WCHA stretch run to the league’s postseason. With only two WCHA games in their rearview, tied for the fewest conference games among the eight member teams, the Beavers current sit sixth in the league’s standings with two points.

Since the Bulldogs and Beavers first met in 1999, FSU owns a slight 16-15-4 advantage in the series, while the rivalry is locked 8-8-2 in games played on the Bulldogs’ home ice. With all of that said, since Jan. 21, 2017, BSU has been nothing but dominant in the series dropping just one game in the last 11 meetings (8-1-2) between the teams.

Bemidji State improved its record to 6-4-2 Jan. 29 with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 Minnesota State to snap a four-game (0-3-1)winless skid versus the Mavericks and extend its winning streak to four games, dating back to Jan. 8. Scoring first Friday and never relinquishing the lead, BSU has now not trailed in the last 216:34, or since the 3:26 mark of the second period of BSU’s Jan. 8 game at Bowling Green. Not coincidentally, BSU is 4-0-0 during that span.

Aaron Miller’s goal Jan. 29 was his 70th collegiate point (29g-41a) in 114 games at BSU. He leads all current BSU players in career scoring. With a goal Friday, Owen Sillinger reached the 60-point plateau. In 87 career games, he has 29 goals and 31 assists. Friday’s game was Alex Ierullo’s 80th at BSU. Senior Ethan Somoza leads all current BSU players with 116 games played.
