BSU Softball falls to Nebraska-Kearney and Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday
The Bemidji State University softball team finished the non-conference portion of its season Sunday morning but fell to University of Nebraska-Kearney and University of Wisconsin-Parkside on the final day of the Fairfield Inn and Suites classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Beavers began the day with a close 7-6 loss to Nebraska-Kearney and then fell 1-0 to Wisconsin-Parkside. Bemidji State finishes the tournament with a 0-4 record after falling to Missouri Western State University in both games of a doubleheader yesterday.
Senior Elaina Christiansen paced the Beaves in game one of the day by batting 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. She was followed by sophomore Molly Houts who also collected two hits in the game and totaled one RBI.
Senior Kaidron McClafferty earned the loss in the circle after pitching 4.1 innings in relief of Kyla Damerow and allowed two runs off of seven hits.
In the second game of the day, the Beavers struggled at the plate and were held to just three hits from Christiansen, Mariah Stevenson and Jennifer Smith.
Wisconsin-Parkside’s Kiley Akey held the Beavers off the scoreboard after pitching the complete game shutout.
Bemidji State sophomore Stella Dolan also threw a gem and held the Rangers to just three hits but the Rangers earned the game’s lone run in the first inning.
The Beavers fall to 3-17 on the season and will begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Tuesday, March 29 when they travel to University of Minnesota Crookston for a conference doubleheader.
