Beavers look to extend four-game winning streak as regular season dwindles

The Bemidji State University women’s soccer team looks to extend its four-game winning streak this weekend and will travel to Bismarck, N.D., to face University of Mary on Friday, then return to Chet Anderson Stadium Sunday to host Minot State University for the final home game of the regular season.

The Beavers (9-2-4, 8-1-3 NSIC) start their one-day road trip against Mary (9-3-3, 6-3-3 NSIC) Friday, with a 4:00 p.m., kick-off. BSU then returns home Sunday to face Minot State (7-2-6, 7-1-4 NSIC) at 12:00 p.m. Live stats and game streams can be found, here.

Bemidji State currently sits second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference standings with 27 league points while Minot State follows in third with 25 and Mary sits fifth with 21.

In the all-time series against the Marauders the Beavers are 11-12-2 but have won the last two meetings. In the most recent game, BSU’s Sara Wendt scored in the 76th minute to take a 1-0 victory on Oct. 29, 2021 in Bemidji.

Bemidji State has a 10-5 record against Minot and has seen victory in the last six matches. The last time the two Beavers met was on Halloween in 2021 in Minot, N.D., where BSU earned a 2-0 victory including a goal from graduate student Allyson Smith.

The Beavers are coming off their best weekend of the season after earning two wins and out scoring their opponents 7-1. Fifth-year senior Wendt netted her first career hat trick against Sioux falls and earned NSIC Offensive Player of the week. Smith and Maria Stocke both came away with two goals in the weekend as well

After her three-goal game Wendt stands alone in first in scoring for the Beavers with 16 points coming from seven goals and two assists. Following with 12 and 11 points are Smith and Erin Becker, respectively. Smith’s points come from five goals and two assists, while Becker has contributed with four goals and three assists. Wendt ranks second in the conference by averaging 1.07 points per game and her four game-winning goals this season leads the conference.

Alyssa Stumbaugh has been in goal for 11 games this season with a record of 6-2-3. In all Stumbaugh’s wins she has posted a shutout saving 52 shots with a save percentage of .82. Georgiana Harber was in goal for the other four games with a record of 3-0-1 and saving .750 percent of shots.

In the first NCAA Women’s Soccer Regional rankings of 2022 announced by the NCAA, the Bemidji State University women’s soccer team is one of 10 teams featured in the Central Region rankings. The Beavers are one of three teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to be listed as a team under consideration.

New to this year is teams will be announced as under consideration for the first week and listed alphabetical order instead of the traditional ranking system.

Bemidji State owns a 9-1-4 record against DII opponents this season and is one of four teams in the region with one or fewer losses.
