Beaver Women’s Hockey Gameday Blog – Game 22 – Dec. 17, 2022 at St. Thomas

Bemidji State University sophomore defender Makenna Deering scored her first collegiate goal to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead 12:07 into the first period but University of St. Thomas rallied to score the next three goals and earn the 3-1 victory over the Beavers Friday night in game one of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

With the loss the Beavers fall to 4-16-1 (1-14-0 WCHA) while the Tommies improve to 4-15-1 (1-13-1 WCHA).

Deering opened the scoring in the game 12:07 into the first period when she received the puck from freshman Raeley Carney at the left point and circled the zone to the right circle and had Tommie netminder Alexa Dobchuk and fired the puck to the far post to score her first college marker.

The second and third period’s would favor heavily for the Tommies and with 1:12 left in the second period, UST’s Isabel Lippai tied the game at one with a power-play goal.

St. Thomas used that momentum in the third period and took the 2-1 lead at 8:05 of the final period with a goal from Haley Maxwell. The Tommies then added an empty-net goal from Abby Promersberger to clinch their first conference win of the season.

Bemidji State’s Hannah Hogenson stopped 27-of-29 shots during the game but falls to 3-15-1 with the loss.

St. Thomas’ Dobchuk stopped 24 of the Beavers 25 shots in the game.
