Beaver Women’s Hockey Gameday Blog – Game 28 – Jan. 28, 2023 at St. Cloud State

The Bemidji State University Women’s Hockey team out-shot No. 15 St. Cloud State University 32-27 Friday night in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series opener but Huskies’ goaltender Jojo Chobak held the Beavers scoreless in a 2-0 shutout for SCSU.

The Huskies (14-14-0, 8-14-0 WCHA) scored both of their goals while on the power play as the Beavers fall to 4-22-1 (1-20-0 WCHA) on the season.

SCSU earned its first power-play goal of the night off the stick of Jennina Nylund just 5:25 into the game. The Huskies then made it 2-0 in the second period when Addi Scribner scored the second power-play goal with 6:15 remaining in the middle frame. Neither team was able to score in the final 20 minutes as St. Cloud State completed the shutout of the Beavers.

Bemidji State committed eight penalties in the game and totaled 24 penalty minutes. The Huskies took advantage of the Beavers’ miscues and scored on two of its six power-play chances.

Despite down a skater through much of the game, the Beavers out-shot St. Cloud State 32-27 in the game and out-shot an opponent for the first time since Dec. 17. Senior Reece Hunt and sophomore Adriana Van De Leest paced the Beavers by totaling five shots each.

Junior goaltender Hannah Hogenson stopped 25-of-27 shots by the Huskies including 11-of-12 in the first period. The Beavers held the Huskies to just six shots in the final 20 minutes while dominating the offensive zone and totaling 17 shots against Choback.

The Beavers will now attempt to salvage a series split with the Huskies tomorrow afternoon and stop their nine-game losing streak when the two teams meet again at 1:07 p.m., in part of Hockey Day in Minnesota festivities.
