Beavers set for St. Thomas Invitational this Friday
BSU sending 20 student-athletes to compete in 14 events
The Bemidji State University Women’s Track and Field team will travel just down the road this week to compete in the St. Thomas Invitational this Friday.
The Beavers are coming off a strong start to the outdoor season in Montana this past Saturday posting 14 top-five results.
Entering in the 3,000-meter steeplechase will be Nadia Vaughn, Callie Ressler, Mary Goodwin and Maggie McCarthy. This will be the first time competing in the event at the collegiate level for Vaughn, Ressler and McCarthy. Goodwin broke her own school record in this event three times last year and holds the current record time of 11:29.76 set during the NSIC Outdoor Championships.
In the 1,500-meter, McCarthy, Carol Miller, Vaughn and Ressler will compete for the Beavers. McCarthy ran her first collegiate 1,500 last week in Montana posting a time of 5:18.09. Miller also ran in the 1,500 last week and was close to her personal-best time crossing at 5:20.44. Vaughn competed in her first collegiate 1,500 last week crossing with a time of 5:30.75. Ressler posted a time of 5:32.70 in her first 1,500 last week as well.
Natalie Fultz, Josie Aitken and Abby Syverson will compete in the 400-meter. This will be the first 400 for Fultz since setting a new PR time of 1:00.52 last year. She ran the 400-meter hurdles last weekend. Aitken tallied a time of 1:02.08 in the 400 last weekend in Montana. Syverson will be running her first 400 since last year posting a time of 1:01.50. She ran in the 800-meter last weekend.
Alaina Hall and Olivia Olson will enter in the 100-meter. Hall last ran the 100 during the NSIC Championships last year coming in with a time of 12.23. This will be her first event of the new outdoor season. Olson ran the 100 last weekend in Montana with a time of 13.06.
Lexi Erickson will compete in the 800-meter. Erickson last ran the 800 during the NSIC Indoor Championships in February with a time of 2:17.09. She competed in the 1,500 last weekend in Montana.
Lily Johnson will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. She ran in the event at Montana last week with a time of 1:11.83.
Olson will also enter in the pole vault. She competed in the event last weekend in Montana hitting a mark of 9-8.
Erickson and Fultz will enter in the high jump. Erickson last competed in the high jump in February during the indoor season clearing 4-11.75. Fultz competed in the high jump last weekend in Montana reaching 5-1.75.
Alexis Gehrig and Mikenna Pattrin will compete in the hammer. Gehrig had a throw of 119-6 in the event last weekend in Montana. Pattrin also competed in the event in Montana reaching a distance of 139-0.
Cassidy Schmidt, Tierra Doss, Zayda Priebe and Alyssa Hill will compete in the discus. Schmidt hit a mark of 113-11 in the discus in Montana. Doss had a throw of 130-10 in the event in Montana. Priebe was set to compete in the event in Montana but didn’t register an attempt. Hill competed in her first event as a member of the track and field team in Montana hitting a mark of 119-3.
Hall will also compete in the long jump. She last entered in the long jump during the NSIC Indoor Championship reaching a distance of 17-8.75.
Abbie Disbrow will compete in the triple jump. She competed in the event in Montana reaching a distance of 32-7.
Hill, Priebe and Doss will all compete in the shot put. Hill will compete in her first collegiate shot put this week. Priebe didn’t register a throw in the event in Montana, posting a top indoor mark of 38-3.5 in the shot put in February. Doss hit a mark of 41-4.5 in the event in Montana.
Syverson, Aitken, Amanda Smith and Erickson will all compete in the 200-meter. Syverson last ran the 200 in January posting a time of 28.08 during the indoor season. Aitken also last ran the 200 in January with a time of 28.23. Smith ran the 200 throughout last year’s outdoor season and last ran the event in January posting a time of 29.73 during the indoor season. This will be the first time Erickson will be running the 200 since joining the Beavers.
Field events will start at 3 p.m., with the first running events starting at 3:45 p.m. There will be live video and results throughout the meet.
