No. 23 Beaver Soccer hits the road for pair of NSIC matches at SMSU and Winona State

BSU Women’s Soccer brings seven-match unbeaten streak to Marshall and Winona

The No. 23 Bemidji State University Women’s Soccer team hits the road this weekend and travels to Marshall, Minn., and Winona, Minn., to take on Southwest Minnesota State University and Winona State University to continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

The Beavers (5-0-2, 3-0-0 NSIC) put their seven-match unbeaten streak and five-match winning streak to the test this weekend and first face the Mustangs (1-5-0, 1-2-0 NSIC) Friday, Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. The Beavers then travel to face the Warriors (1-3-3, 0-2-2 NSIC) Sunday at 1 p.m.

Both matches will be streamed live on NSICNetwork.com/bsubeavers.

Bemidji State is one of 24 teams in Division II remaining with an unbeaten record and return to action after having seven days off from competition.

The Beavers moved up to No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 national poll this week after earning a 2-0 victory over Sioux Falls on Sept. 21.

Freshman Madeline Davey scored the game-winning goal for BSU against the Cougars in the 74th minute with sophomore Katrina Barthelt scoring in the 86th minute to seal the 2-0 victory.

Barthelt leads the Beavers in scoring with 12 points off five goals and two assists and is currently riding a three-match goal scoring streak (4).

She is tied for the conference lead in goals and is tied for 20th overall in DII. Her 12 points this season leads the NSIC and is tied for 26th in the nation.

She is followed by junior Maria Stocke who has totaled six points off three goals which is tied for fifth most in the NSIC.

Bemidji State has seen eight different goal scorers this season, the most in the NSIC and paces the league with 16 goals scored.

The Beavers defense is one of the best in Division II and leads the NSIC with five shutouts and is tied for 10th in the nation.

Bemidji State has allowed just two goals all season which is tied for the fourth fewest in DII.

The Beavers have not allowed a goal in 243:18 dating back to Sept. 15.

Junior Edie Frantzen is tied for the conference lead with five shutouts and ranks second in goals against average (.286) and save percentage (.882).

The Beavers have allowed just 17 shots on goal to lead the conference and tie for fourth in the nation.

Bemidji State is 12-11-4 all-time against SMSU but have won its last seven matches versus the Mustangs.

The Beavers are 10-18-3 all-time against Winona State but are 8-0-2 against the Warriors over the last 10 matchups.
