BSU Men’s Hockey hosts Lake Superior State for CCHA series
Riding a four-game unbeaten streak, the Bemidji State University Men’s Hockey team returns to home ice this weekend for a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series with Lake Superior State University at Sanford Center.
The Beavers (5-4-1, 3-0-1 CCHA) return to their home rink winners of three of their last four games and have earned at least two points in each of their first four conference games. BSU hosts the Lakers (3-4-1, 0-2-0 CCHA) for a two-game, league series beginning Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:07 p.m. Game two will follow Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
Each game will be exclusively streamed online at MidCo Sports Plus with the Beaver Radio Network providing play-by-play. Fans can also tune-in to the Beaver Radio Network broadcast for both games on the radio dial at 92.1 FM or online at www.beaverradionetwork.com.
Bemidji State makes its return to the Sanford Center for the first time since Oct. 24-25 and returns home after the most successful road trip to Bowling Green, Ohio in program history.
For the first time in program history, the Beavers earned four points on the road at Bowling Green State University last weekend dating back to the series start in 2011-12.
The Beavers began the weekend with a shootout victory over the Falcons Friday night and then won in overtime Saturday to secure the program’s first four-point weekend at BGSU.
Junior Oliver Peer led the Beavers in scoring recording four points off a goal and three assists while senior Adam Flammang (2g-1a) and sophomore Hudson Thornton (1g-2a) each had three points.
Thornton was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Week after his three-point weekend and recorded all three points in Saturday’s 3-2 victory including scoring the game-winning overtime goal.
Bemidji State holds a league-best nine points in conference play and are 3-0-1 against league opponents.
Peer paces the Beavers with 12 points (5g-7a) in his first season playing NCAA DI Hockey after transferring from New Brunswick (USports).
Flammang follows with 11 points (3g-8a) put he paces the team in points per game (1.38) after missing two games due to injury.
Flammang has recorded a point in seven-of-eight games he’s played and has two multi-point efforts.
Peer has a point in eight-of-10 games played and is tied with freshman Max Namestnikov with three multi-point games this season.
Flammang paces the Beavers with a five-game point streak (2g-4a) dating back to Oct. 11.
Peer and Flammang both rank inside the top-20 in points in Division I this season with Peer tied for 16th and Flammang tied for 19th.
Senior Reilly Funk leads the CCHA with 190 face-offs taken on the season and is third with a .505 winning percentage.
Thornton paces the Beavers’ blueline with seven points (2g-5a) and is tied for the CCHA lead with 18 blocks in the defensive zone.
Bemidji State is fourth in the CCHA averaging 3.30 goals per game and also rank fourth allowing 2.90 goals per game.
The Beavers are fifth in the conference with a power-play percentage of .158 (6-of-38) and are coming off a 2-for-7 weekend at Bowling Green.
The Beavers’ penalty kill ranks seventh in the conference at .775 (31-of-40) but has not allowed a power-play goal against conference opponents this season and have killed off its last 12 opponent power plays.
Bemidji State has split time in net between junior Raythan Robbins and freshman Max Hildebrand.
Hildebrand has started six-of-10 games this season and is 3-3-0 with a 3.46 goals against average and .881 save percentage.
Robbins is 2-1-1 with a 2.20 goals against average and .921 save percentage to rank sixth in the CCHA.
Both have started two games against conference opponents and combine for a 1.92 GAA and .926 save percentage against CCHA opponents this season.
The all-time series between the Lakers and Beavers is deadlocked with the all-time series record at 42-42-6.
The home team has been slightly favored in the series with Bemidji State holding a 21-18-3 record at Sanford Center but LSSU holding a 22-20-3 record at Taffy Abel Arena.
The teams met only once during the 2024-25 season and split their series in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Senior Kirklan Irey leads the team with seven career points (4g-3a) in nine games against the Lakers.
Robbins has made two relief appearances against the Lakers and in 54:00 minutes, has stopped 19-of-20 shots (.950).
