Beavers open home season against Oak Hills Christian
BSU hosts OHCC for first home game of the season Friday night

Bemidji State University Men’s Basketball is set to host Oak Hills Christian College Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the BSU Gymnasium.

The Beavers enter the weekend at 1-1 after competing in the Central Region Challenge, hosted by Pittsburg State University. BSU took down Henderson State University, 89-69, and fell to Southern Arkansas University 85-83. After his electric, 49-point, 26-rebound weekend, Tate Olson was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division Player of the Week. He currently leads the conference in an array of statistical categories, as well as being ranked in the NCAA.

Olson leads the team with 24.5 points per game this season, followed closely by Henry Shannon III with 17.5. Olson is shooting at .548 percent from the field while Eddie Jallow Hedqvist is sitting at .750 from the three-point arc. Olson also leads the team under the rim, grabbing 13 rebounds per game. He currently sits in first in NCAA Division II for defensive rebounds per game with 11.0.

Oak Hills is 0-4 so far this season after falling to Crown College, University of Wisconsin Stout, University of Minnesota Morris and University of Minnesota Crookston. In their first three games of the season, OHCC averaged 73.3 points per game and gave up 79.3. Tyrecke Francois leads the Wolfpack, through three games of available stats, with 69 total points, shooting at .366 from the field and .281 from the three-point line. Lanygel McCracken leads the team under the rim with 34 rebounds, 28 of which came from defensive efforts.

After Friday’s game, the Beavers head on the road to start NSIC play at University of Minnesota Duluth before heading to Florida for the Century Retail Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by Florida Southern College. They’ll take on Saint Leo University on Black Friday followed by the host Florida Southern Saturday.
