MINOT, N.D. — Bemidji State University (6-16, 3-14 NSIC) fell to Minot State
University (9-14, 6-11 NSIC), 72-65, as Minot State outscored Bemidji State 46-35 in
the second half on Thursday night at the MSU Dome. The team managed to block five
shots but committed 16 turnovers compared to Minot State’s five.
Bemidji State opened the first half with effective scoring, highlighted by John
Pecarich’s early jumper followed by Henry Shannon III’s layup, setting the tone. The
team maintained momentum with key defensive plays, including steals by Shannon III
and blocks that limited the Beavers’ offensive opportunities. The Beavers
capitalized on turnovers and executed a consistent offensive strategy, with Nathan
Fenske contributing a three-pointer and layup to extend their lead.
As the half progressed, Bemidji State’s defense remained strong, with Shannon III
contributing multiple defensive rebounds and a crucial block. The visitors
maintained their advantage despite Minot State’s attempts to close the gap through
free throws and a late scoring effort. The half concluded with Bemidji State leading
30–26, asserting their presence on both ends of the court.
Bemidji State initiated the second half with a strong start, highlighted by Dominic
Fairbanks’ 3-pointer to extend the lead. Shannon III contributed consistently from
the free-throw line and in the paint, helping the Beavers to build a narrow
advantage. Brock Heffner added a key 3-pointer with assistance from Shannon III to
maintain momentum.
As the half progressed, Bemidji State faced a challenge as Minot State mounted a
comeback, tying the game with a fast-paced play sequence. Despite efforts from
Fairbanks, who led with multiple scoring plays, the home team edged ahead. The half
concluded with Bemidji State trailing 72-65, as Minot State secured the lead in the
closing minutes.
Shannon III was a key contributor with 18 points, three steals, and five blocks,
collecting eight rebounds for a solid performance. Pecarich followed with 14 points,
converting six field goals, including two from beyond the arc. Fairbanks added 12
points, hitting two 3-pointers, and grabbed four rebounds. Fenske chipped in with 10
points, connecting on two 3-pointers, alongside four rebounds and three assists.
Bemidji State holds a record of 6-16 overall and 3-14 in NSIC competition. The
Beavers stand at 9-14 overall with a 6-11 record in NSIC play.
Looking ahead, Bemidji State will travel to face the University of Mary on Saturday,
Feb. 7. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. in Bismarck, North Dakota.
BISMARCK, N.D. — Bemidji State University (7-16, 4-14 NSIC) edged the University of
Mary (5-19, 3-15 NSIC) 74-73 on Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. The Beavers overcame an
11-point halftime deficit, securing the win with a strong second-half performance.
The first half opened with Bemidji State establishing an early presence in the
paint, scoring 20 points inside, and gaining momentum with assists from Henry
Shannon III and John Pecarich. The Beavers managed to take the lead multiple times,
utilizing a strong inside game and defensive rebounds. Despite their efforts, Mary
capitalized on turnovers, converting 16 points off turnovers and finding success
from beyond the arc with seven 3-pointers. The half concluded with Bemidji State
trailing 45-34, as they maintained competitive play throughout.
Bemidji State opened the second half by erasing a deficit, fueled by key defensive
plays from Austin Josephson, including two steals and a block. Shannon was pivotal
in the comeback, contributing a mix of field goals and free throws to help the
Beavers close in on the lead. In the latter stages, Dominic Fairbanks’
three-pointers and Pecarich’s assists pushed Bemidji State ahead. The visiting team
maintained their edge despite Mary’s efforts, ending the half with a 40–28
advantage, setting the stage for the final stretch.
Pecarich scored 21 points and contributed four assists, showcasing his accuracy by
converting all five of his free-throw attempts. Shannon led the team with 23 points
and 13 rebounds, dominating inside with 10 successful field goals. Fairbanks added
13 points and recorded six rebounds, making three shots from beyond the arc.
Josephson provided a strong defensive presence, collecting 10 rebounds and blocking
four shots while also adding 10 points.
Bemidji State holds a 7-16 overall record and is 4-14 in NSIC competition. The
Marauders stand at 5-19 overall with a 3-15 mark in NSIC play. Looking ahead,
Bemidji State will host Northern State University on Thursday, Feb. 12. The game
will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minnesota.
