It never ceases to amaze me how different road trips are (mentally) when the team wins!
Not that this hasn’t been a good trip (off the ice), but it’s always more fun doing your job when the team wins! Here’s been the rundown fro the day:
8:45am – wake up call and breakfast
9:45am – practice / head to the rink to tape sticks, get treatment for knicks and dings
11:30am – pregame meal
1:45pm – walk to the rink for the game
4pm – game
7pm – postgame meal at EBA’s (Everything But Anchovies)
As for me…
8:45am – wake up call and record interview
9:30am – finish up my notes for the day
11:30am – shower and get ready for the game
12:15pm – walk to rink and set up equipment
2:45pm – record Tom Serratore pregame
3:30pm – pregame show starts
7pm – back to hotel to archive the game broadcast, write game story and record the game recap
9pm – head to Salt Hill Restaurant for dinner
11pm – back to hotel to write this blog post
This has been a fun trip in that Doug Leif (BSU Faculty Athletic Representative) Bert Gilling, Toby Palmiscno (equipment manager), Bill Crews (trainer) and I have been able to spend some time together at night. Tonight at the Salt Hill, we reminisced about the Frozen Four Year. We talked about the trip home from Grand Rapids, Michigan where several hundred people were waiting outside the Bemidji Airport for us when we got home. We talked about the pregame “festivities” in Washington DC prior to the Frozen Four (the Sports in the Round at the ESPN Zone and the pregame Beaver Pride function).
Boy, did that bring back memories!
So, tomorrow, here’s what is on the itinerary….
10am – wake up call and breakfast
11:15am – leave for rink (pink up equipment and all the gear)
11:30am -leave via bus for Manchester
2:30pm – Leave via plane for Detroit
5:40pm – Leave Detroit for Minneapolis
6:40pm – arrive in Minneapolis
8pm – dinner one the bus (pink up in Maple Grove)
12am – arrive in Bemidji
And people think traveling is so much fun!
Seriously, based on the travel in and out of Bemidji for the team…I’m surprised that they have done so well on the road (and in the classroom) in the D-1 era.
