Bemidji State University head football coach Jeff Tesch today announced the addition of 37 student-athletes to the BSU roster for the 2013 season. Of the 37 commitments, 24 signed National Letters of Intent, three are transfers and 10 have inked offers of admission to attend Bemidji State.
The class is comprised of 34 high school seniors who will join the program as true freshmen next year.
The 24 NLI signees include 10 offensive players and 14 defensive players.
Ten other players will be joining the BSU program after accepting written offers of admission with four on the offensive side of the ball, six defensive recruits.
The 2013 class was drawn from five states, with 12 hailing from Minnesota. In addition, committed players currently reside in Wisconsin (10), Illinois (7), Arizona (4), California (1), Indiana (1), North Dakota (1) and Rhode Island (1).
The student-athletes listed on the roster have signed National Letters of Intent to play football at Bemidji State. Student-athletes are only listed above if the Bemidji State Athletics Compliance Office has verified the National Letter of Intent and financial aid agreement or the student-athlete has been accepted by the Bemidji State Office of Admissions.
The Beavers started 1-3, but finished the 2012 season 7-4 to record their 14th record of at least .500 in their last 15 seasons. The team’s 5-1 record at Chet Anderson Stadium tied a program-best for home wins in a season and marked the 11th consecutive winning record at home. Bemidji State went 6-1 in the NSIC North Division to share the divisional title with University of Minnesota Duluth and record its best showing in the five years since beginning divisional play.

Led Rocori High School in passing and rushing before a season-ending injury after just five games his senior year… In those handful of games he went 57-for-88 (64.8%) through the air for 624 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for 564 yards and crossed the goal line nine times… Was an integral part of the Spartans’ run to the 4A State Championship in 2011… Served as the back-up quarterback and went 13-for-22 for 158 yards, while he compiled 316 yards and four touchdowns rushing with 211 receiving yards and three scores… In the state semi-final game, Mueller posted 74 yards and two touchdowns receiving and rushed for 26 yards and a score… Mueller also plays basketball for the Spartans.

All-section 7AAA pick in 2012 for International Falls High School… Exceled on both sides of the ball and on special teams, as he rushed for 1,056 yards, totaled 62 tackles and four interceptions and holds the record for blocked point-after-attempts with three… An All-Sea Range Conference team member as a senior, Janttie, a captain, recorded 335 receiving yards… Led the team in rushing as a junior… Stands 12th all-time at Falls High School for points and holds the top two marks for rushing attempts in a game with 41 and 40… A seven-time letterwinner, four in football and three in track.

Schroeder was a two-year starter at East Grand Forks High School… In addition to tight end, saw action at offensive tackle, defensive tackle, defensive end and long snapper as a member of the Green Wave… Was invited to participate in the Football University program and Football University’s Top Gun camp, as well as Junior Rank’s Prodigy Camp… Also competed in track… Honor roll student in high school

• Sam Stevens (RB, 5-11, 195, RS-HS, 5-4, Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth HS)
Stevens captained his Plymouth High School team to a Northern Lakes Conference championship in 2012 and was an Indiana Football Coaches Association Region II All-Star Team selection… Led Plymouth his junior season with 1,053 yards and 18 touchdowns and as a senior with 1,359 yards and 17 touchdowns… Finished high school career with over 3,000 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ground… Broke the Rockies’ single-game rushing record with 289 yards (and four touchdowns)… Had 14 career games with 100 rushing yards or more and is second in school history in rushing yards per game, third in career carries, and fourth all-time in yards… Also wrestled and competed in track for Plymouth… Was an honor roll student who was involved in the Indiana High School Athletic Association Operation Leadership student leadership conference.

Urban started three seasons as a quarterback and defensive back at Superior High School… Was an All-Big Rivers Conference selection in his junior and senior seasons… Finished career with 3,108 passing yards and 30 touchdowns and was a team captain for the Spartans… Also lettered in basketball at Superior… Consistent A/B Honor Roll student in high school… High school teammate of fellow BSU Offer of Admission signee Anthony Valentine.

• Anthony Valentine (OLB, 6-0, 200, RS-HS, 5-4, Superior, Wis. / Superior HS)
Three-sport athlete at Superior High School… A three-time all-conference linebacker for the Spartans… As a senior piled up 81 tackles to sit second on the team… Of the 81 tackles, five went for loss and 1.5 were recorded as a sack… Returned his lone interception for a touchdown and added a forced fumble and blocked kick… Recorded 10 or more tackles on four occasions as a senior, which included a season-high 12 tackles in a 28-8 win against Chippewa Falls (Oct. 12)… Named all-area once in his career… Teammate of fellow signee Spencer Urban.

• Trevor Wettlaufer (DB/S, 5-11, 190, RS-HS, 5-4, Bottineau, N.D. / Bottineau HS)
At Bottineau High School, Wettlaufer posted a single-season rushing record of 1,749 yards during his senior season and finished with 3,435 yards in his three-year varsity career… First-team All-North Dakota Class AA selection at running back in 2012 and was also picked to participate in the 2013 Shrine Bowl… Garnered all-region honors in all three seasons… Helped lead the Braves to a 2011 region co-championship and a berth in the state playoffs… Was also a member of the his high school track team, where he finished sixth in the state 400-meter dash in 2012, as well as the basketball team… Was a member National Honor Society and student council and was also a class officer.
